🌿 Self-Care: Who Has Time for That?!

By: Dr. Christa Drakulic, Postdoctoral Fellow

Has anyone ever told you that you need to take time for yourself? πŸ’

You might think, β€œIn my spare time,” or, β€œWhat a joke - I don’t even have a minute to myself.”

Busy lives can make it feel like every moment has to go toward responsibilities. Work, family, relationships, errands, appointments... the list goes on. πŸ—“οΈ

But here’s another way to think about it:

✨ Taking time for yourself can be as little as a few minutes, a few hours, or a few days - whatever is manageable for you.

What matters isn’t the length of any single moment of self-care. It’s making self-care an intermittent, ongoing part of your life - giving yourself opportunities to recharge, relax, and recover when life starts feeling overwhelming. πŸ”‹

And self-care can be pretty much anything!

πŸ’™ Examples of Self-Care

πŸ’… A manicure, pedicure, or massage
πŸ’‡ Getting your hair done
β˜• Taking time to enjoy your favorite coffee or tea
πŸ“š Reading a book
🎬 Catching a movie
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ Downtime with family or friends
🧘 Meditating
πŸƒ Exercising, jogging, or taking a walk
πŸ™ Prayer
🎨 Doing crafts, painting, drawing, or coloring
🌱 Signing up for a group or class that interests you
🏑 Decorating or organizing
🎡 Listening to music

And that’s definitely not an exhaustive list!

πŸ“… β€œBut I Don’t Have Time…”

If you’re someone who isn’t used to downtime - or you’re always on the go - but want to try building self-care into your routine, consider actually scheduling it.

Put it on your calendar. πŸ“†
Set a reminder. ⏰
Treat it like an appointment you intend to keep.

This can help make self-care a habit - and remind you that taking care of yourself deserves space on your calendar, too.

❀️ What About the Guilt?

One more thing: some people feel guilty taking time away from their responsibilities.

Try reframing it.

You’re not shirking your obligations. You’re setting yourself up for success. 🌿

Taking time for yourself doesn’t just help you recharge. It can help you show up more fully - and more effectively - for the people, responsibilities, and things that matter to you.

✨ You don’t need an entire day off to practice self-care. Sometimes, you just need to give yourself permission to take a moment.

If this resonates with you and you’ve been thinking about starting therapy, feel free to reach out to learn more. πŸ’™

Can Neurofeedback Help With Depression and Anxiety? What qEEG-Guided Training Offers πŸ§ πŸ’™

By: Dr. Jennifer Merthe-Grayson, Licensed Clinical Psychologist

If you've ever felt stuck in a loop of racing thoughts, heavy mornings, or a nervous system that just won't settle, you already know how exhausting depression and anxiety can be. More people are exploring neurofeedback with qEEG technology as a noninvasive, personalized way to support emotional regulation, stress resilience, and mental clarity, without adding more to an already full plate. 🌿

Beginning mid-July, we'll be offering qEEG-guided neurofeedback sessions. If you're curious whether this could complement your current wellness or mental health plan, now is a great time to join the waitlist. ✨

Why People Are Exploring Neurofeedback for Mood and Anxiety 🌊

Depression and anxiety often involve patterns in how the brain regulates attention, stress, and emotional responses. Many people searching for neurofeedback for anxiety or neurofeedback for depression are looking for something that feels:

  • Noninvasive 🌱

  • Drug-free

  • Personalized to their brain, not a one-size-fits-all protocol

  • Supportive alongside therapy, lifestyle changes, or medical care

Neurofeedback doesn't try to "fix" emotions. Instead, it offers the brain real-time feedback so it can gradually shift toward more balanced, efficient patterns. πŸ’‘

What qEEG Adds to the Picture πŸ”

A qEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) maps brainwave activity, helping identify patterns related to:

  • Stress and nervous system regulation 🌑️

  • Emotional balance

  • Sleep quality πŸŒ™

  • Mental fatigue and focus

  • Overactive worry or rumination

That map becomes the foundation for a training plan tailored to your brain - not a generic protocol pulled off a shelf.

What a Session Actually Feels Like πŸͺ‘πŸŽ§

People are often surprised by how simple it is:

  • A calm, comfortable space

  • Small sensors placed on the scalp (they read activity - they don't send electricity in)

  • Visual or auditory feedback as your brain trains

  • No need to "perform" or force anything

For many people navigating anxiety, the quiet, predictable nature of the session itself can feel like a relief. 🀍

Setting Honest Expectations ⏳

Neurofeedback is not a magic fix for depression or anxiety. It's better understood as a supportive training tool that may complement therapy, medical care, lifestyle adjustments, or other evidence-based approaches. Some people notice shifts sooner; others benefit from a longer, more consistent process.

It is not a replacement for mental health treatment when that's what's needed - but for many, it becomes a meaningful part of a broader plan. 🌷

Is This a Fit for You? πŸ’

qEEG-guided neurofeedback may be worth exploring if you're looking for support with:

  • Calming an overactive stress response

  • Building emotional resilience

  • Easing mental fatigue

  • Improving sleep

  • Feeling more grounded day to day
